The main international organisations promoting and protecting human rights have bodies operating in their respective headquarters (Geneva/New York; Strasbourg; Brussels/Vienna) which, after activating a specific formal procedure (known as a standing invitation), visit the Member State in order to assess the overall human rights situation in that Country. At the end of the Country visit, they elaborate a report which is published and disseminated. CIDU is responsible for preparing the necessary materials and for planning and coordinating these visits. At the end of each visit, it hosts a debriefing meeting at which the monitoring body expresses its initial observations, which are then reproduced in the its report.
